FAQ's
Hair Removal
|
Q: Is laser hair removal really permanent?
|
All laser hair removal at New Image Laser Cosmetics is
performed using an FDA approved laser for PERMANENT hair
reduction. Which laser used depends on the client's skin
type, but all can be assured of long term, stable reduction
in the amount of hairs re-growing. |
|
Q: How many treatments will I need?
|
Because the laser
only destroys those hairs in active
growth, a series of treatments will
be necessary. With each treatment,
greater hair reduction is achieved.
On average, you will need 4 to 6
treatments. Depending on the
individual and the site being
treated, some people will need up to
10 treatments. |
|
Q: How long does each treatment take?
|
This depends on the size of the treatment area. We have
clients that only wish to have the hair on their upper lip
removed. This requires only a few minutes. Others however
want the back, chest, legs and / or other larger areas.
Large areas may take 45 minutes to an hour. An entire body
could require most of the morning or afternoon. When
undergoing long treatment sessions, most clients nap or read
a magazine while listening to music. The time passes
quickly. |
|
Q: Does it hurt?
|
Most people describe it as no feeling at all or, like a
small rubber band lightly snapping on the skin or, like a
tiny electrical "buzz". Very few people actually describe it
as painful but we do offer topical anesthetics if you
desire. Its use is rarely necessary. |
|
Q: Can you treat extremely dark skin colors?
|
Two of our laser systems specialize in hair removal. Both
are FDA approved for all skin types including people of
color. Of the two, Dr. Noe prefers the Lyra-i for all darker
skin types such as African American, Dark Hispanic and Dark
Middle Eastern. This laser achieves results equal to those
achieved on lighter skin types and is completely safe.
People of color also suffer from razor bumps more frequently
than lighter skinned individuals. This laser will eliminate
this problem as well by removing the hair that causes it. |
|
Q: Is it safe?
|
When used properly, the laser is completely safe. Your eyes
are at risk and therefore are shielded throughout the
treatment. No ionizing radiation is released by these lasers
so the risk of damage to the skin is incredibly small. In
the business of laser hair reduction there is risk of burn
and changes in skin color but these risks are extremely
small due to the lasers used and the training of Dr. Noe and
his staff. |
|
Q: How much does this cost?
|
Just like "how long will the treatment take", it all depends
on how much hair you want removed. Take advantage of the
FREE consultation with Dr. Noe and find out how much less
expensive it is to have the area treated by New Image Laser
Cosmetics than other laser centers. |
|
Do the veins disappear forever?
|
There is of course no guarantee that all of the veins will
completely disappear. This is however the goal and the vast
majority of patients enjoy a significant reduction in the
veins and are extremely satisfied with the results. With
time, new veins will occur. The treatments remove veins,
they do not stop the natural aging process. You may find
that in the future you will have additional veins appear.
Dr. Noe and his staff will discuss ways for you to prevent
this natural aging process from resulting in future veins. |
|
Is it painful?
|
The vast majority of people report very little discomfort
during the procedure. You may feel a mild sting each time
the laser fires. Other people describe it as a little
electrical buzz. We cool the skin as the procedure
progresses and you are always offered topical anesthetics.
Therefore, you should have no worry of pain during the
procedure. After the procedure, it may feel and look as
though a cat scratched you. Or, it may itch a bit. You
should not however, feel pain. If this is a concern for you,
Dr. Noe may prescribe a medication. You are strongly advised
not to use aspirin or aspirin-like medications as this can
thin your blood and cause increased bruising.
|
|
Are the treatments safe?
|
All laser treatments carry some risk. Luckily these risks
are typically rare, mild, and temporary. Your eyes are most
at risk of damage should the laser light be directed toward
them and they are unprotected. For this reason, you and Dr. Noe will wear protective eyewear at all times during the
treatment. Risks to the skin include lightening or darkening
of the skin color. This is rare and almost always temporary.
Other uncommon risks will be explained in greater detail
during your complimentary consultation. |
|
How much does this cost? Is there a payment plan?
|
Cost depends on the amount of work that you desire. For this
reason, you will be billed based on the time estimated in 15
minute increments. Dr. Noe is able to treat a fairly
extensive amount of veins in 15 minutes but should you
require more work, additional 15 minute increments will be
added. We will work as long or as brief as you desire. Our
prices are extremely competitive and will be discussed in
detail at your complimentary consultation. Payment is
expected in full at the time of each treatment. |
|
What if the veins are not on my legs? Can you treat veins in
other areas?
|
How does a laser peel work?
|
Your skin is composed mainly of water. In fact, about 70% of
your skin is nothing but water. The laser used by Dr. Noe to
resurface your skin at New Image Laser Cosmetics is an
Erbium-YAG laser. This laser emits a beam of light whose
energy is rapidly absorbed by water, vaporizing the top
layer of the skin. The depth of the peel is determined by
the amount of energy the laser is set to release. It can
release a very small amount of energy, removing a very
superficial layer of skin ( the "Lunch Hour Peel" ). Or, it
can be set to remove deeper layers. The depth of the peel
will determine the amount of time you will need to complete
the healing process. |
|
Does a laser peel hurt?
|
Light "Lunch Hour" Peels are almost never associated with
any discomfort whatsoever. After the procedure you may feel
as though you have a minor sunburn, but you should not
expect to feel pain at all. Medium and Deep peels are also
rarely associated with pain. You are always offered
complimentary topical anesthetics should you desire them but
their use is very uncommon. |
|
What conditions will the laser peel improve?
|
The most common use of the laser peel is to restore a
youthful look to the skin. It is very helpful in removing or
reducing fine lines and wrinkles often found around the
eyes, mouth, forehead and cheeks. Deeper lines and wrinkles
can be reduced. It can be used to smooth away the scars of
acne and chicken pox. It is helpful in removing and reducing
blemishes as well, such as age spots and freckles. |
|
How many treatments do I need?
|
This will depend of course on the condition being treated
and the depth of the peel. Dr. Noe usually recommends a
series of peels, 6 to 8, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. |
|
What does skin rejuvenation do?
|
It attempts to restore the natural look you had during your
youth. It does this by many different means. Depending on
your specific condition, Dr. Noe may recommend removal of
sun or age spots, stimulating collagen formation in the
skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, removing broken
vessels, spider veins and rosacea, smoothing out the
irregular discoloration of your skin, removing hair in areas
that it should not be, eliminating the scars caused by acne
or resurfacing the skin. |
|
What sets New Image Laser Cosmetics apart from any other
laser center?
|
To be able to treat all of the problems associated with
aging, multiple laser systems must be available. To try and
treat all of the above with one or two systems is nearly
impossible and will almost surely yield unsatisfactory
results. At New Image Laser Cosmetics, we have no fewer than
7 systems available to be able to appropriately treat nearly
any aesthetic skin problem. |
|
How many treatments do I need?
|
This depends entirely on your specific problem and desires.
An estimate of what is needed and how many treatments will
be possible only after consulting with Dr. Noe. This initial
consultation is always complimentary so you need not worry
about the cost. |
|
After my treatments, how long will the results last?
|
This again depends on exactly what you had done. You can
generally count on long-term results. Hair removal for
example results in permanent reduction. Unfortunately,
gravity and time never cease. As such, signs of aging will
eventually reappear. We recommend that you avoid things that
hasten this process such as smoking and unnecessary sun
exposure. Periodic maintenance treatments may be helpful as
well. |
